Does the Charging Cable Stay Flexible in Cold Weather?

Last updated Sep 23, 2026

Yes, under the confirmed test conditions, the two EVC cable constructions listed below completed cold bending and cold impact tests without visible cracks. The cables use a flexible TPU outer jacket, and the test results confirm that the jacket remained mechanically reliable after 16 hours of cold exposure.

Important: These results apply only to the tested cable constructions and test conditions. A test temperature of −40°C does not by itself define the permitted operating temperature of every dé charger or cable.

Which cables were tested?

Cable construction Cold bending result Cold impact result
EVC H07BZ5-F 5X2.5+0.75 No cracks No cracks — Pass
EVC H07BZ5-F 3X35+0.75 No cracks No cracks — Pass

How was the cold bending test performed?

The cold bending test checked whether the cable jacket cracked when the conditioned cable was bent at low temperature.

  • Standard: EN 60811-504
  • Test temperature: −40°C
  • Cooling time: 16 hours
  • Result: No cracks were found on either tested cable construction.

How was the cold impact test performed?

The cold impact test checked whether the outer jacket cracked after an impact under cold test conditions.

  • Test temperature: −40°C ± 2°C
  • Conditioning time: 16 hours
  • Result: No cracks were found on either tested cable construction.
  • Status: Pass

What do the results mean?

The results show that the TPU outer jackets of the two tested cable constructions did not crack during the specified cold bending and cold impact tests.

The results do not mean that:

  • the cable will feel exactly the same as it does at room temperature;
  • every dé cable has the same cold-weather performance;
  • −40°C is the permitted operating temperature for every charger; or
  • the cable may be used outside the conditions stated in its product manual.

Check whether the test applies to your cable

  1. Identify your product.

    Check the rated power and product version on the charger label or in your order information.

  2. Check the cable specification.

    Compare the specification shown on the cable or in the product documentation with the two tested constructions listed above.

  3. Read the correct manual.

    Use the Portable AC Charger User Manuals – 3–22 kW Series or the 7/11/22 kW Wallbox User Manual page to check the operating limits for your product.

  4. Ask dé support if the specification does not match.

    Do not assume that a result for another cable applies to yours. Prepare a clear photo of the product label, a photo of the cable marking, your order number and the country of purchase.
