An IP55-rated wallbox is suitable for garages, covered parking spaces and sheltered outdoor locations where it may be exposed to rain or water splashes. It should not be installed where it may receive high-pressure water jets, stand in accumulated water or become submerged. This guidance applies only to wallboxes specifically marked IP55.
What protection does IP55 provide?
IP stands for Ingress Protection. The two digits describe protection against dust and water.

| First 5 | Dust | Some dust may enter, but not enough to interfere with the equipment under the specified test conditions. The enclosure is not completely dust-tight. |
| Second 5 | Water | The enclosure is protected against rain, water splashes and low-pressure water jets from different directions under the specified test conditions. |

Suitable locations for an IP55 wallbox
- Inside a garage.
- Under a carport or parking canopy.
- In a sheltered outdoor parking space.
- Under a roof or eaves where the wallbox is not directly exposed to strong water flow.
- In a location with limited dust and only occasional rain or water splashes.
Locations to avoid
- A completely exposed outdoor location without shelter.
- A position that may be directly sprayed by a high-pressure water jet.
- A low area where water can accumulate around the wallbox.
- Any location where the wallbox could become partly or fully submerged.
Important: IP55 does not mean completely waterproof or completely dustproof. Do not use a high-pressure water jet to clean the wallbox, and do not place it in standing water.
Check the location before installation
- Confirm that the wallbox is marked IP55.
- Choose a garage, covered parking space or another sheltered position.
- Check that the location is not exposed to high-pressure water jets.
- Make sure water does not normally collect at the selected position.
