How the Schuko Plug Temperature Sensor Prevents Overheating

The confirmed dé Schuko portable charger uses a temperature sensor in the Schuko plug to respond when the plug becomes hot. At 65°C while the temperature is rising, the charger automatically reduces the charging current by half. If the temperature reaches 75°C, charging stops. After the stopped charger cools to 65°C, it automatically returns to full-load charging.

This protection helps reduce the risk of continued temperature rise. It does not guarantee that the plug, wall socket or electrical circuit can never overheat.

How the temperature response works

The response at 65°C depends on the charger’s current state:

  • When the plug is heating up during charging, reaching 65°C triggers reduced-current charging.
  • After charging has stopped at 75°C, cooling to 65°C triggers automatic full-load charging.

What to do if temperature protection is activated

  1. Allow the automatic protection to respond.

    The charger will reduce the current at 65°C or stop charging at 75°C according to the confirmed control logic.

  2. Do not touch a hot plug.

    Wait until the plug has cooled before handling it.

  3. Check for visible damage.

    Once it is safe to inspect the connection, check the plug and wall socket for visible damage, discolouration or an unusual smell.

  4. Stop using damaged equipment.

    The user manual states that the charger must not be used if the unit is damaged. Do not open the plug, control box or charger enclosure.

  5. Get help if the protection activates repeatedly.

    Repeated temperature protection should not be treated as a normal charging condition. Have the power connection checked by a qualified professional or contact dé support@depow.com. 

Important: Automatic restart after cooling does not confirm that the wall socket or electrical circuit has no problem. If the same condition happens again, stop using the connection and arrange an inspection.

Check the charger specifications

The confirmed 3.7 kW Schuko Portable EV Charger is specified for 230 V AC and has selectable current settings from 6 A to 16 A. Use only a properly grounded power connection and follow the instructions for the exact product version.
